I've always based my Teams if not for my opponets benefit, but for my own in a 2 fold way.
I dont get myself confused with whose who... and I dont got insane with people asking me if thats a Blitzer or not every turn!
(the question is usually more "does this guy have block" when they are going to hit him and in a starting team thats just the Blitzers - who have a red base)

For the sake of discussion, I have my Troll Slayers with Blue Bases... Kickers dont exist anymore, and Troll Slayers dont wear shoes...

WHAT I WANT CHANGED:

GREEN for Linemen
Green because on a Green field that makes more sense than Grey.

And, I dont use Grey at all because its too close to white (some would think Id default Grey to Blockers, swaping with Linemen).
Blockers get Brown.

Also, it was indicated we needed Yellow for Catchers and Orange for Runners. Thats trivial, the key issue is that people can tell you positional players from Linemen and from each other.
NOT to argue about colours.
Quite honestly my opponent could use Black, Purple, Silver & Brown. The point is I dont have to ask who is who.

Thinking about it... I know when I've got a model out of place when im Kicking off cos the colours wont match up, so it helps me in that way too.

There's no need to make this compulsory, but I like the concept and it would be nice to have an official colouring scheme mentioned in the rulebooks.

Ring of Fire ...

Post by Relborn »

Well I openly make this statement :

I like the rings and that is good so (German-Insider joke)

Well as said already putting the players into positions would
bring back the games factor.

And to Pariah ... if you need to hide you dwarvenblitzer to make
some points I pitty you :wink:

Rings to rule them all ...

Post by Relborn »

well I would stick to the rings from the former edition :

Green - Blocker (like Chaos warrior, Black Orcs and maybe Trollslayers)
Red - Blitzer (straight clear isn't it ?)
White - Thrower (and maybe Dwarven Runner ?)
Yellow -Catcher/Runner (Witch Elves ?)
Grey - lineman (clear ?)

That's the way I use it already - and the newbies in our league are VERY thankful about it ... think over it - the Bloodbowl Veterans under you won't have problems to identify the players even from most conversions, but new player would have a very hard time. :smoking:

By the time you get a couple of skills on a few players, base rings colours aren't gonna help, unless we have different colours for them too!

Fuschia: Blitzers with Block and Tackle
Azure: Catchers with Block, Dodge, Catch and Sidestep
Off-White: Catchers with Dodge, AG+1, Catch, Nerves of Steel

See what I mean ;)

Though Anthony was being sacastic, he may be onto something. We don't really need base rings for id positions, most people want to know what skills a player may have. Code base rings on the kind of skills player has access to, let's say red colour range for ST, blue range for AG, and yellow or white for PA. Gen skills keep basses same colour as board )green or grey, depending on 2ed or 3ed board). So it would look something like this:

Gen&ST skills
Blockers and BG=Crimson red
Blitzers=med. red
Troll Slayers=fiery red (that's orangey red)
Longbeards=maroon (or brown)

Gen&AG skills
catchers (GR, ghouls)=med. blue
elf linemen=light blue
misc. (DE Blitz, witch elf, He DW,etc.)=navy blue

AG
Stunties=purple

G&P
Throwers=yellow
Dw runners=orange

G,A&P
Elf thrower=white

That should cover pretty much everything. As I stated before, I don't care either way on base rings, but this may be what some people are looking for. Of course the biggest problem with base ring colours is that they can clash with the minis paint job.

well I wasn't being that sarcastic, but really, how many people know the difference between Crimson and medium red. I suffered through a whole semester of Colour Theory in art school and I don't have a clue. :-?

you could also just get a fine-point black marker and just write the skills around the basering.... why must things be so complicated?

Okay...I agree with that ugly school girl pinup, Anthony. lol

Actually i don't need to hide my boyz but it's nice.

I've said before that i had a longbeard with AG 3 and catch. Now why would I want my opponent to know who he was? It's more fun when only I know and I can do fake plays. Ya know...just like the real boyz do!

then clearly the solution to all of our problems is that we should play the game with 16 identical chess pawns with their numbers written on the bottom....

I wouldn't go that far!
In our league we don't tell what the players have unless we are asked about it.
Using a black pen to write the skills on the base? Yeah. I don't know how well that works for you but the last thing I was is my opponent picking up my players and squinting at their bases and asking, "What's MB? Multi Block or Mighty Blow?" every other turn.

OK, maybe I should have written dark red instead of crimson (maybe you were thinking of scarlet, which is a bright red). Anyway, I thought crimson was better than saying blood red, most of you Citidal paints users would have thought of their orangey-red paint that they mistakenly call blood red. I really hate Citidal paints reds :puke: , OK that may be a bit of an exaggeration.
