Starting A New Orc Team, Suggestions?

Post by thecheat231 »

Now let me begin with the situation at hand, I have in my possetion a bunch of great old Orc Models (now when I mean old I mean old for me, like they were in the first edition of fantasy I played in). They are Orc Big Unz' (an objective term if I've every spyed one  ) from 2 editions past of fantasy. Here are some links:

I have multiples of all of these Big Unz aswell as some Big Un Champions, which have winged helmates (they may not be from fantasy) I was going to use them as blitzers. I also all of the Warhammer Quest orc Big Unz that came in the Orc quest expansion. As well as the model I'm going to use as my "star player" (guy I like most on my team and try to get to be the best).

I can't find images of the quest models but if anyone does please post.

Um...What I'm trying to get at is the fact that most of these models are posed exactly the same, I was wondering if this would matter, I think that for linemen it wouldn't bother me but I would like to vary my blitzers, If anyone has any suggestions on how I could change the models poses, or what models might mach well, or if they would just like to shout at me feel free, I like when people talk to me

Imagine flying into someone else's country and killing it's leader with a cane. And then taking all thier money. Well he's Scrouge McDuck and I guess he can do whatever the flip he wants.

There are ways to better differentiate models. For instance, you cut an arm off and reposition it (filling the gap with green stuff to covering it up with homemade armor/pads).

Another thing you could add are little details such as bandages or straps (made easily with micro-masking tape, found in many good hobby shops which sell remote control cars..just wrap it around the arm, leg, or head and glue into place).

You could also add different types of armor or pads to different players (knee pads, elbow pads, shoulder pads on one or both shoulders, chest plates, etc.) Plastic hobby sheets are good for making armor and pads (found in model railroading section of a hobby shop).

Anyway, I think you have plenty to work with and you should definitely give it a try! :P

I've used bigunz for blitzers for a while... just removed the weapons. I guess I didnt bother then with different posings. The difference in team-number was enough.

I would try to sculpt something on their (left) fist; it already has a knob where the shield should be attatched... drill a small hole, put in a "pin" (so, 1mm drill + 1mm thick paperclip), and add something to that. either try to make something with Greenstuff, or get the pointy head of a halberd or something to put on.
For the other biguns: different items.
Maybe add a mohawk ?? and then different colors. again: put in a pin, add the gs to the pin, let dry for ... 20 minutes or something (or so they say), and sculpt some hair.

Idea ??

My main reservation about those big'uns is that they've all got their right arms in the air. Having a few like that would be okay but with lots it makes it much more obvious that they've all had weapon-snips.

Depending on your level of confidence with conversions I would change the position of the right arm on a few of the models. I would cut the arm where it joins the chainmail and swivel it almost 180 degrees so it is across the front of the body (a classic blitzer pose) - then pin the arm and fill in the gap with green stuff as outlined in others' posts.
