Need help on skill choice.

Post by Rupert »

Hi

I play a young HE team in pbembbl (3 ed rules). I am a rookie coach and would like some advice on skill choice for my Dragon worriors. My Dragons are:

7348 Block, Pass block (6spp) and
8348 Block, Pro (18 spp)

What would be good next skills for these players?

I'd say dodge for them both, but that depends on which teams your playing against.
There's nothing better than Block and dodge at the same time. They are hard to beat down, and good at running through the deffensive lines.

The league have many very good strength teams (undead and orcs) and a few good running/passing teams (woods and skaven).

If you're in a league with a lot of strength teams, definately go for dodge. They'll need it to stay on their feet. With block/dodge and a two dice roll against you there is a probability of 11/36 (30,5%) you'll go down. With only block, it'll be 20/36 (55,6%).

I'd take Dodge for both players. This would increase their mobility & keep them standing longer.

I'd say dodge for the 1st one, and either dodge or shadowing for the 2nd.

What I tend to do is plan my skill advances on all my players before the team even kicks a ball.

The concept is that you are developing a team so you should try to develop skills that complement one another for a given player and just as importantly across the team.

When looking at skill advances try to work out paths for getting a double on the 1st or 2nd roll - and they may be different paths - and possible paths if you get a stat increase.

Also remember that SPPs are gained at different rates for different players, and at the same time you need to be aware of your purchasing strategy (what are the next 2~3 players you'll buy) and how that effects development.

So for my high SPP players I'd look at the first 2~3 skills and for the rest on the 1st and maybe 2nd skill, but also looking towards the longer term.

A classic example of this is skill sets so your Lineelves might all go Block Dodge, apart from a kicker and dirty player. Or you might decide the line elves will alternate half going Block Dodge, half Dodge Block.

However like any plan it nevers survives contact with the enemy for long so be prepared to be flexible.
