Where to get some block dice?

Post by Oxinotl »

Hello everyone,
Im new to the game, but i have played alot of other GW products.

Was just wondering where i can get hold of some block-dice and the ruler for throwing? There really isnt any way for me to get hold of a 3rd edition box here in sweden, specially in the town i live in :( Mailorder really isnt an option for the time beeing.

Was thinking about making my own playing board and ruler, and then just use regular D6 instead until i can get my hands on the real stuff (after all.. i do wanna support my favourite company). This gives me and my friends a chance to try the game out until then.

Perhaps someone can help me out here a little bit by answering the following questions:

Ruler:
As far as i understand each band on the ruler covers 4 squares on the play field. How wide is it and how long is the end part you put above the models head?

Dice:
There is only five different faces on the block die, which face appears on 2 sides of the die?

I have allready created most of a orc team from WH and WH40k plastics and some night goblins. Just cant wait to field them
thanks

Your best bet is to try and pick up a 3rd edition from ebay on the cheap, or at least try and get 2nd edition, they both use the same range ruler, so no problem there and you can use a d6 for the block dice for now.

Of course when the NAF site goes live i think you can sign up there and they will send you special edition black blocking dice, this is your best bet unless you just get a set from mailorder uk shipped over.

But like i said try ebay you can get some bargains.

Thanks for your quick reply Grumbledook.

Ohhh black dice!! lovely, how do i sign up?
What does NAF stand for anyway?

Would be great if someone could answer my questions in the original post anyway, just so we can start playing like right now.
I just cant wait until my order gets processed and with my luck it will prolly get held up in customs etc.

Thanks

Buying a copy of the game is a good idea. If you would like to use a d6 for a block die in the meantime, the duplicate die face is a "push" result.

One thing I often suggest to new players is that they should do a spreadsheet of 2 die block probabilities, so the importance of the block skill becomes readily apparent.

Yesterday my league finished constructing two pitchs, a set a templates and 2 sets of block dice. We had more people coming for the league day, so wee needed them.

For the block dice, we went and bought a small bag of 6 2.5cm wood cubes from a craft store and drew the symbols on with a permanent marker. You should be able to find pictures of them online or in the living rule book.

For the template, we had an original, which we placed under some thick clear plastic and traced. They turned out great. Thanks to Jackie if you ever see this, They were amazing duplicates! As for the size: From the centre of the thrower's square to the end of "quick pass" is 11.5 cm, another 10cm for short and long pass and a further 7.5cm for the long bomb. The template is 4.9cm wide.

Our board was made out of 4 sheets of chrocheting material attached glued together. The square were then painted on as where the appropriate lines. Another option would be to get something poster sized that has the correct squares on it. 15 squares wide, 26 squares long: 4 per wide zone and a 1 square endzone for the last square on each side.

Thanks for the info. I think i might have found a store here that sells an old 3rd edition by now, gonna go check it out after the weekend when i have a little more time. After all, nothing would really beat the "real stuff"

Thanks anyway, perhaps it will help some other lost soul out there who havent gotten hold of a copy yet.
