I haven't got the rules handy right now, but doesn't the "stumble" (failed dodge roll with Stand Firm) already count as ending the player's move? In either case, it would be a simple and inituitive ruling that it does.

You're quite right of course.
Ignoring the part about still being able to Block, my point still stands. It's still an easy out!

IF there's a reason why you fail a action with a player it almost results in a turnover, example:
Human rookie blitzer is one dodge away to make the blitz, he rolls and fails to dodge, reroll and fails again. Now he's on the ground TO!!
Same thing with throwing, so the rule isn't that unbalanced.
Stand Firm makes both of these untrue ... its very easy to dodge to either blitz or pass with a Stand Firm player blow the roll and have your turn keep going.

Heck they relaxed the rules .. in BB Mag #1 failure to follow through with an action was a turnover (example: delcaring a blitz and then not blocking anyone) ... at least that isn't true anymore.

Yeah, allright ok Galak and Deathwing you got me.

But just one last thing: where in the LRB is the rule written.
I'm not trying to get a debate going, just want to read the rules.

I see the point with stand firm, but I still beleive that the rule is somehow wierd, but that's just me..

And the very last thing, promise:
Can you say "this guy (holding the ball) is going for the blitz" and halfway through the action say "No wait, he's going to pass the ball instead", or do you have to declare the throwing action before????
Basicly what I'm asking: Can you change the blitz to a pass in the middle of the action???

I'm getting this wierd sense of deja vue.. :)
On 22nd Nov Deathwing wrote:You must declare which action a player is going to take before carrying out that action.
The actions are Move, Block, Blitz, Pass, Hand-Off and Foul.
If you declare a Move action then you cannot do any of the above other than a Move action. After you declare which action a player will take then that player cannot perform any action other than the one you declared.

My league plays that a blitz must be declared before any moving, rolling for bonehead, etc. We encorage players to declare other actions, but we let any other action but blitz, such as a pass or hand off, be declared at any time. It's easier for less experienced players and doesn't alter the game that much to let a player pass even if they forgot to mention it at the begining of a move.

I like the idea Marcus put foward (or was it someone else, I forget) hat you can change your mind about which action to take as long as no dice has been rolled, but of course, this is against the letter of the rules.

In both my leagues this is the way I rule as well. If you forget to declare but not dice have been rolled, its still okay.
