So, what's the verdict on the new ally rules?

Hi all,
around these parts, the old worlder and pact teams are considered downright broken :o
IMO, the problem is with the multiple big guys. Even without the big guys the coach can assemble a competitive roster. Slap 2-3 big guys on top, and you've got a disaster on your hand.

Furthermore, what I don't like about the big guy "slots" is that they don't involve much of a choice. Everything else with the team is a trade-off - 2 longbeards or 1 slayer, etc. There is a lot of thinking involved, and that is a very charming aspect of the teams.
Not so with the big guys - taking one doesn't cost you anything.

So here is what we've done:
---------------------------------
"Each big guy that a mixed team buys, costs the team access to one of it's other ally races."
---------------------------------
(We let the lustrians get the krox for "free" though)

Try designing some rosters with this rule - it really helps a lot. :)
Sure, you can still have a 3 big guy pact team, but then you're down to just 3 other allies. IMO, a lot more balanced, and leaves even more thinking/planning to the head coach.

Martin :)

Thats a bit general for my liking. Still don't think they should get access to more than one. Sure the All Stars get three, but they're the Chaos AllStars so live with it OK?

Now, if there was a maximum "0-6 allied players" line on the roster, you'd be onto something. I'd like a maximum number of "Position" players too (0-2 should do the trick. That way your allied Linemen have to fill the gaps in the rest of the game plan.)

One thing we should note here that is of some importance: we are NOT talking about rules for allies. We are talking about rules for mixed race teams. Zombie can happily abuse it there.

After playing about 6 games with the Chaos Pact I'd say they are overpowered.
Reason? I have only lost one game (and that one was due EXTREMELY lucky/unlucky series of dice rolls). Even thought the score was 1-0 the other team was devastated down to an 81 TR. I consider my record 6-0 with them. 2 of these are league games. I think the Lustrians may be the only one close to being balanced.

Here's a couple thoughts about the other two that might help.

Chaos Pact should be split up into different Gods. Let Khorne teams take minotaurs and orcs. Nurgle teams can take trolls and skaven, etc. Don't have it all worked out buut you get the idea.

Old world teams should be not be allowed to have elf and dwarf on the same teams. Or if they do make it cost them a reroll or something.

Maybe they should bring back the old animosidy trait that was used in 2ed where if one player was on a team with a player from a race he suffered animosidy against he would not throw or hand off the ball toa him (you could probably add assist with blocks to that).

Not that this is an endorsemnt for the mixed race teams, didn't like them in 2ed, don't like them now. Why would anyone take a regular chaos team when they have the option of a chaoss pact team? When I played 2ed, that's exactly what happened, those who wanted to play chaos alwasy chose the mixed race version.

Couldn't have said it better.

Mixed race teams are for people who can't play their team's weaknesses.

I still like the concept but this is a valid point. Mixed races should perhaps be in the "challenging" column when looking at the teams.
