A plea to tweak the Nurgle team roster
I make the following plea to tweak the Nurgle team roster. The plea is based entirely on feel and "Nurgliness" and not on team performance (with regards to which it is very approximately neutral).
PROPOSED CHANGE: Replace Regeneration with Thick Skull.
RATIONALE: In the Warhammer universe, many Nurgle player types and characters are tough (as in resistant to pain) but they do not have regenerative powers (like, say, Trolls). Therefore Thick Skull is both more credible and more appropriate for the team than Regeneration.
APPEAL: The roster as it stands is quite resilient over time (except for the Rotters) becaue of Regeneration. In this regard it behaves somewhat like an Undead, Necromantic or Khemri team roster. However, if you replace Regeneration with Thick Skull, the team will tend to decay over time by accumulating permanent injuries (rolls of 51-58 on the Casualty table). I think this would be appealing and "Nurgly" (this is, after all, most probably not a team for power gamers).
PLAY BALANCE: My expectations (not playtested) are that the team would perform slightly better in tournaments and short leagues, but worse in long leagues.
COST: I suggest that players losing Regeneration and gaining Thick Skull might merit a reduction in price by 10,000, but I will let my elders and betters decide this. It's only a suggestion.
Let me know what y'all think.
Cheers

OK - BB universe is not the WFB universe.
But there are sure a lot of similarities.
Surely, if Nurgle in BB were to better catch the WFB feel of nurgleness better, then no harm would come of it.
But Galak has the winner: No new ideas to be added.
Besides, I like it, but if the idea hit the polls, I'm not sure it would do so well.

I'd say they are linked, and pretty strongly too, just not 100%. I.E. there is plenty of room for differences but most things, at least when it comes to the characteristics of the races, align pretty closely.
On the subject of regenerating Nurgles, it sure is true that they don't regrow like trolls in WFB but then Skeletons don't either. It only takes a little lateral thinking to make it fit. Nurgle types in WFB fluff can take pretty serious injuries and shrug off the effects in a short period of time )or not even feel them). They still have it (look at the number that walk round with their guts hanging out) it just hasn't affected them the way it would a normal person.
So regeneration for Trolls is regrowing flesh.
For Undead putting the body parts/bones back together and re-applying the magic.
And for Nurgle its pushing the guts back in the body cavity and discovering the patient is still very much alive and fit and claiming he doesn't feel a thing.
I'm sure a better skill name could have been found to encompass all aspects (hard to kill? die hard?) but I think that the mechanic fits well enough.
Also, I think that the team would find it too hard to retain experienced players without regenerate.

I would get awfully tired of repeating this, if I were you.GalakStarscraper wrote:GalakStarscraper wrote: 3) Jervis Johnson who controls the development of the game has said that effective November 1st no new changes to Blood Bowl could be introduced for many years to come that were not already in testing as of October 2008.

That is what we are for now. I've copied the above quote to a safe place to easily drop it in anywhere.falconeyed wrote:I would get awfully tired of repeating this, if I were you.GalakStarscraper wrote:GalakStarscraper wrote: 3) Jervis Johnson who controls the development of the game has said that effective November 1st no new changes to Blood Bowl could be introduced for many years to come that were not already in testing as of October 2008.

Over the last 4 years haven't you learned my three big character quirks.falconeyed wrote:I would get awfully tired of repeating this, if I were you.
1) Fanatic commitment to a cause I believe in

Galak - before you get to his request (I am guessing that I know what it is) please check the MBBL forums and here, there is a small change that should be made prior to releasing it.
(That is if I am correct in what you are working on) (Probably not, but...) (Have you ever seen so many ()'s used before?)

Hi Galak,
no problem. RL comes first - certainly, wife and kid(s) come first
Enjoy family TV night
Cheers
Martin
(PS, my son watched 15 minutes of Maisy Mouse every evening for 6 months. That brings the total to 45 hours - and I watched it all with him. I can feel the brain tissue eroding)
