Khemri - Blitz-ra double

Post by deeferdan »

First skill on "Rammy-sees" the Blitz-ra: rolls a double! Is dodge a good call?

While we are on it what about doubles on Throw-ras?

TGs obviously take Block and Skeletons Guard or am I being short sighted

Dodge and you're looking at a natural ball carrier. Side Step would go well with Guard, but as his first skill I'd go Dodge. Keeps him on his feet.

When I've had doubles later on in development I take Jump Up - but that only makes sense after MB/PO.

Thro-Ra - Dodge no question. Chances are you aren't throwing it you're running it, and chances are you're running it in with the Thro-Ra who picked it up in the first place!

As for Skellies - yes Guard, but one Sneaky Git to turn into a dedicated Fouler wouldn't hurt either. Get your Guard in early so you can focus the TG/BRs on being killers with their few skills (see MB/PO above! - but never PO on a TG as he'll get gangfouled to death!).

If you plan to carry the ball with this Blitzer (at least for a while), Dodge is a good choice.
Otherwise, I prefer M-Blow as first skill to speed-up development.

Dodge for me (boring, I know, but the carrier had to weather any attack: picking-up a loose ball is a daunting task for Khemri)

Sure Feet.

IMO not all team develop in the same way with a bucket of dodge.

IIRC the player has AG2, which is not much for dodging.

Where as Sure feet can see the player race about a bit.

Diving Catch would be good too.

AG2 gives you a 5+ catch target.
+1 for an accurate pass
+1 for DC
Makes this guy a 3+ ball handler.

Of course the decision to throw the ball has to be made.

So a Throw Ra with Accurate will also have a 3+ passing ability at quick pass range.

It may suprise an opponent with a passing game :)

Seriously? Sure Feet and Diving Catch on a Blitz-ra, has someone bet you that it was impossible to trick a naive coach into taking those or something?

Yeah maybe they will be laughing so hard they forgot to move some players

There aren’t any amazing doubles choices for a Blitz-ra really, Dodge, Jump Up and Sidestep are all decent but like Wights on Undead/Necros the Blitz-ra is uniquely placed in having both S and G access. They are also the most likely to get spp’s since they are more likely to get cas from a 2D block than Guardians and better options as ball carriers than the skeletons, plus with block and AV8 they have a better survival rate than most of the team.

You certainly can’t waste a skill choice by taking something virtually worthless like diving catch which doesn’t even work on hand offs.

So you have loads of great skill choices that other players can’t get on normals such as Guard, MB, Tackle, PO, SF, Strip ball and Frenzy. I’d be tempted to ignore the doubles and take guard or MB, failing that dodge is useful since it gives you a 75% chance of success and makes him harder to knock down.

I would go for dodge too. Is nice having someone who has got a chance of dodging into position, wichi is the main gap in khemri's defense. But would not use him as a primary ballcarrier. A throw ra with kick of return and block is quite easy to get for that after a few games. Rather use him as cage member on atack and free man at the back on defense.

Blitz-ra on a double, dodge or Jump up but might I suggest ignore the double and give him MB or guard?

Wanna use him as a carrier? Dodge. Wanna use him as a killer or picket/cager or sometimes-carrier? Side Step. Not keen on Jump Up for the piece, because it's a 3+ to stand-and-block and he seldom aims to stand-and-move.

I develop my Blitz-Ras along the lines: Tackle, M-Blow. The Throw-Ras I give: Block, Tackle as first normal skills. In this way I develop up to 4 players with MA6 and Block/Tackle. They all become handy on defense, being the obvious players to blitz opposing ball-carriers when the opportunity arises. The Tomb Guardians and Skellies are unlikely candidates for early Tackle.

I would probably choose Dodge. It protects the player, and, more importantly, improves his ability as a Blitzer. As normal skills, I would choose Tackle and probably Break Tackle next (or M-Blow followed by B-Tackle). Then he can dodge at 3+ with dodge re-roll, and blitz with team re-roll in hand. On offense, he becomes a potential receiver when you are in trouble (receives a hand-off or pass with team re-roll, then blitzes and or dodges through a gap with dodge re-roll). These are quite big improvements on a slow and clumsy team.

Hope that helps.

I'm afraid to dodge with AG2, even with a TRR, except in extremis. That's what MBBTTGs are for. Side Step, however, makes him a much better blitzer, as he's almost always in position to lay the smack. It combos well with positioning skills and Guard, and the best positioning skill of all is 4 guys with ST5.

Matt - I'm not afraid to dodge with AG2 when I have to. It's just one of the things you have to do with an AG2 team. It's the same odds as picking the ball up or handing it off.

All the best.

Jump up allows Blitz-ra a better chance to reposition, whilst a 3 + to get a "free" block could be worth it. At least if it fails it won't suffer a turnover.
I wouldn't be dodging too often on 4+ (AG2), therefore still think MB would be more useful

I prefer dodge on this player. It keeps him upright. Sidestep, to me, is a viable option, but he has access to stand firm as a normal skill already. So, I like dodge better.

Nothing wrong with Dodge. Lots of players take Dodge with no intention of ever dodging. Also, he'll become a superstar. Frankly, I think there are two right answers here, both with the same effect, keeping him alive and in position. Dodge is better if you're trying to keep him up after getting blocked, and Side Step is better if you're trying to keep him from getting pushed out of position. He's an expensive AV8 piece on a control team. That speaks to both. Generally, I'm inclined to think Dodge is better at very early team development, and Side Step is better on a built-up team in a built-up environment, where you need to take pressure off the TGs.
