I wrote a Wight thrower (not runner) is “difficult to fit” in the Necro team for the reason stated: the consequent need to put a Ghoul in screening duty.
If you are willing to use the Ghoul to screen the Wight, I think it's fine. The advantage in spp retention you mentioned is indubitable.

Still, I suspect that it's easier to do with Undead than Necros: in UD teams you got 4 Ghouls, so they are relatively expendable/interchangeable.
Necro teams are less flexible since this burden falls on only 2 Ghouls: when attrition ensues, you have to screen the carrier with the Wolves (not an endearing choice).
Just an hunch, really, but that's my gut feeling.
Thanks MKL. I agree that it seems easier to do for the Undead. As a related issue, in the leagues that I have played in in recent years, I have noticed that Necro coaches tend to get quite frustrated with their Ghouls because of their high death/retirement rates (Undead seem less concerned, as the dynamic with 4 Ghouls is different). I have seen 2 solutions to this problem (adopted largely out of frustration): to play without Ghouls, and to make a Wight the Runner. I am considering taking a more positive approach to this problem (partly because I like the idea of Ghouls with Wrestle/Tackle, which I have not seen). As with all innovations of this type, it is probably better not to go overboard, and to just go S-Hands, Guard, Tackle, M-Blow on the Wights (Dodge on doubles). This path can change quite a bit if stat increases intervene, when skills such as KoR and S-Arm might become interesting. With the Wights getting a lot of TDs, and retaining SPPs, an interesting development path for at least one of them is likely.

I think it's racist to bypass your ghouls for a wight-only passing game.

You'll be asking for free health care for Ghouls next.

Thankyouthankyouthankyou! My next Nurgle team will have an "uninsured" theme. The players will have names like Waitress in Dallas, Had Mono, and Wisconsin Teacher. OFC, the BoN must be San Diego Freelance Editor!

Nah. I can play Blood Bowl. You don't need a doctor to deal with the occasional nick from a knife or bit of glue that won't come off. But I got a bunch of friends who play football, and I'd love to join them, but I'm not stupid enough to do it in an environment where anything requiring medical attention means certain bankruptcy.

Oh, and Blood Bowl is a football game. American football, association football, the various rugby games, uphill-downhill games, all the various proto-American football variants, those are all football games. So's Blood Bowl.

Back (almost) to the thread topic, I just started a Necro team, and after the first game tbe Wolf got +1AG. Should I use him as my primary ball carrier (Runner with option to pass)? If not, why not?

All the best.
