Low TV inducements Skaven vs Lizards

Post by gollumullog »

I'm playing an important game tomorrow, which could lead to winning (long shot) the Powerbowl (Chaos Cup prize).

Would love to hear suggestions on inducements for this game:

Tictaqto Golden Demons
vs
Death Runs Faster

DRF had a great start to the season winning their first 5, but then have suffered from casualties late in the season, so have lost the last 5 games.

I have 290k in inducements, and am wondering what people think might be the best options to take?

Hakflem Skuttlespike, and a merc lineman?
Skitter Stab-Stab and Fezglitch?
Glart and a babe?

would love to hear your justifications.

Cheers

first of all your opponent is a fool Break tackle as first skill for Kroxigor~??? madness,

but anyway. take Fezglitch and a Wizard.

Fezglitch could destroy his saurus on his own with a little luck after that the game is won. Just hope you get to receive first. Though even if you dont it make the lizards score quickly giving you the chance to win 2-1

I see Skitter as outstanding value in this match-up.

Perhaps a couple of Babes would be a good Idea too - to make sure your team does not go squish completely.

Fezglitch I would regard as poor value against this opponent, as one or other of the ST5 players will take him out easily.

Break Tackle I would consider quite a good first skill on a Krox, and I have seen it more than once in tournaments.

Hope that helps and good luck.

Well I played the game yesterday, and won 1-0:
http://www.thunderbowl.ca/tbsn/index.ph ... t&mid=2580

I took Skitter Stab-Stab and Fezglitch (losing 30 in extra inducements)

This gave me 13 players.

I held my 1-turn scorer and Fez back in reserves, as my opponent was home and chose to receive.
I got a blitz, was able to get 4 players near the ball, and apply lots of pressure early.

This forced him to make lots of die rolls and ended up burning all his rerolls by turn 4, we had plenty of back and forth with the ball and I ended up scoring on turn 4. I had my full roster still so kept the same roster on field and was able to keep him from scoring.

The next half forced me to play everyone as I had a KO, and a CAS, but all of my gutters still. Fez was great, never leaving the field, keeping a single saurus on the ground all half, but skitter was the star, stabbing 2 skinks to injury, and finally being taken out on turn 14 with a KO.

My dice were ok, with a few turns lost due to single skulls rerolled to skulls, but my opponents dice were worse, but mostly because I was forcing him to roll GFI's all the time.

All in all a great game, and my inducement choices worked great.

Strongly disagree.

I'd probably take a Wizard and use it to Lightning Bolt a skink. There's a decent chance you take the skink off the pitch. Picking up the ball is always annoying for Lizards, so if you zap his ball-carrying skink fairly early you can use your amazing speed to steal/threaten. Then mark or screen-off his suaruses and you'll effectively have a quick defensive touchdown (unless his three remaining skinks can somehow deal with your pack of Gutter Runners, which given his lack of tackle or diving tackle will be quite unlikely).

I'm with Rogue 13 about Break Tackle, on moveable big guys like Rat Ogres and Krox that have wild animal being able to get them in position when needed is very useful. Especially when that prehensile tail is going to be so handy versus dodgers.

As for the wizard, I hate lighting bolting anything except in dire situations, 150k wasted on a roll of a 1 is worse than not having a lighting bolt in the first place. If and when I take a wizard I will almost always use the fireball. Also that one skink better have a boatload of skills to waste a 150k inducements to get rid of him.

Fair enough, but when I play Lizards I rarely form a tight cage. Against a Wizard, I'd definitely run a loose-cage/screen offense and defense (which I typically do with Lizards anyways given the high strength of the sauruses which enables them to function autonomously, their immobility once marked, and their vulnerability to a few Guard pieces). Against a wizard you can bet I'd never forma tight cage or columns.

Alternatively, most Lizard teams will only have one skink with Sure Hands (if they got lucky with a double) or will have one heavily-developed skink who's scored most of the TDs (and probably has Catch), since most Lizards don't worry too much about developing their skinks equally. Both would be prime Lightning Bolt targets. But, potentially injuring the skink is just a freebie bonus of the Lightning Bolt; the real perk is that once the ball is free again your posse of Gutter Runners will be almost guaranteed a quick defensive TD once you screen off the sauruses from the skinks and loose ball. Sucks when you roll that "1", true, but everything takes risks.

I guess it's all moot now, as the OP apparently had already won when I first posted my input (hah). Congrats!
