Should I take the extra RR to protect against the Chef?

Post by swilhelm73 »

I've got a game coming up against a halfling opponent with my necro team.

Currently, I'll be spotting him 1040k in inducements.

I've got 4 RRs. He's got 1 - he'll be taking a chef.

Breaking it down his options are (the cyanide client only has some stars enabled);

Morg 430
Deeproot 300
Zara 270
Chef 100
Wiz 150
Bribe/RR 100k
Babe 50k

If I look at the most likely combo I see Morg+Deeproot+Chef+Wizard+Babe = 1030. If he takes Zara instead of Deeproot 1000.

If I add a RR (and money is no concern for my team), the inducements go to 1110k. Still not enough to get the other star of Deeproot/Zara. I'm not that concerned about giving up another babe or a bribe/rr. So...is there any reason to NOT do so?

Hi Swilhelm

On tabletop you cannot take more than 2 Starplayers: if Cyanide abide to the same rule, Morg+Deep+Zara is no issue.

You need to clear the pitch and you have just given him a new apo to make your life harder. Or an extra bribe. In any event he will take Zara if he has any sense cos she has stakes.
Deeproot, zara Wiz babe x2 apo and if you are kind enough to give me a reroll ANOTHER apo or a bribe (apo to keep zara on and stabbin)

If you cannot stall out for an 8 turn drive to score with dwarves then you need to go and play canasta with your dad..if you can find him.

Again, I don't know Cyanide, but on tabletop the apo cannot be used on Star Players (if I remember correctly).

Cyanide does this correctly on both counts.

Every reroll the chef takes is effectively a turn over for you.
But on the other hand he may turn out to be a bad chef....

In your case I would do it.

Coming to the topic, I would take the extra RR.

1040 or 1110 inducements is no big difference for your opponent.

Got the time to check:

"purchased/induced Apothecaries or an Igor may not be
used on Star Players ever"

pag.69/43 crp

No, You shouldn't need any re-rolls to beat flings. No point giving him more inducements, and the chef is pretty weak now anyway. 50% chance of taking a re-roll sucks compared to the 2+ you used to need. Boy I miss those days.

Not according to my copy - it says "purchased/induced apothecaries may never be used on star players".

You'd hate yourself for trying to game the system against those poor halflings. In the moment of victory your triumph would turn to ashes and in defeat...

If you can't beat 'flings with 1m better team and most likely 2-3 rerolls you deserve to lose.
