[!] Undead team skillups?
Hi guys!
Interesting dilemmas here, I wonder if you can help?
Here's my latest team for our local league (NTBB undead) after 11 games. That gives me a handful left in normal league before playoffs. There are a few elven teams knocking around the league, and a freakishly stat increased Chaos team that's back on its development curve as a result. I play Dark Elves next week, followed by Norse. The team that I think presents the biggest playoff threat to me are that Norse team, that's going down the uber-Killy route.
Mummy 3 5 1 9 Regeneration, Block, Mighty Blow, Grab, 5+5 31SPP GS/AP
Mummy 3 5 1 9 Regeneration, Block, Guard, Grab 21SPP GS/AP
Wight 6 3 3 8 Regeneration, Block, Mighty Blow, Guard 17SPP GS/AP
Wight 6 3 3 8 Regeneration, Block, Mighty Blow, Dodge 17SPP GS/AP
Ghoul 7 3 4 7 Dodge, Block, +AG, Normal 31SPP GA/SP
Ghoul 7 3 3 7 Dodge, Block 8SPP GA/SP
Ghoul 7 4 4 7 Dodge, +AG, +ST 21SPP GA/SP
Ghoul 7 3 3 7 Dodge 0SPP GA/SP
Zombie 4 3 2 8 Regeneration, Dirty Player 7SPP G/ASP
Zombie 4 3 2 8 Regeneration 0SPP G/ASP
Zombie 4 3 2 8 Regeneration 0SPP G/ASP
Zombie 4 3 2 8 Regeneration 0SPP G/ASP
Zombie 4 3 2 8 Regeneration 0SPP G/ASP
I'm torn with the skillups, but I'm thinking Dodge or Side Step for the Mummy, though Diving Tackle is interesting. Am I being distracted by the doubles here? Is Guard a better option? I'm still short of Guard, Frenzy and Tackle on this team, and I don't have long to go before that could be key.
As for the ghoul, I'm struggling with getting to my Wrestle/Strip Ball/Tackle player, since the Strip Baller I had reached his second skill and untimely demise in the same game (thanks, norse team.). So I guess what I've learned from this is that I need two. Unfortunately, the other guy I wanted to get that combo on went nuts, rolling first a +AG and then a +ST in his two upgrades. So for the original +AGer, what do I get him from the normal skill array? I'm tempted by sure hands (though there's not a lot of Strip Ball around) for protection, or maybe side step.
What do you suggest? :S

For the Mummy Dodge, for the Ghoul Sure Hands, but even Side Step could be a good choice.

Re: [!] Undead team skillups?
Thanks guys. I did consider Tackle for the Mummy, but it's a normal skill, and I find it more useful on mobile players... do I pass up the Dodge opportunity now for it? Then again, am I overlooking Guard simply because it's a normal skill too, despite the fact that my MVPs are losing value until I can get some points on my zombies?
I'm tempted by the following options, with the first one the current frontrunner:
+ Ghoul Tackle, Mummy Guard
+ Ghoul Surehands, Mummy Sidestep
+ Ghoul Sidestep, Mummy Dodge
Funnily enough, +AV and +MA don't enter my thinking at all

Dodge on the mummy. Have you considered strip ball. risky I know but you can get into places that others cannot and pop the ball. would force others to use their sure hands guys to move the ball so may increase your chance to control his drives as you know who the ball threats will be?

Re: [!] Undead team skillups?
Yeah, but then I figured giving my 7447 ghoul strip ball (presumably immediately before he gets fouled to death) would be the best comedy route for ball hunting. I did have a guy with strip ball, and he was a menace (scored all three touchdowns versus chaos and constantly stole the ball, but he skilled up and died in the same game two matches ago. I kind of feel like, with block really coming out now, that if I go down the strip ball route, I want to do it on someone with wrestle for their own protection... my fourth ghoul is earmarked for precisely this.

I wouldn't take Side Step on the Mummy.
Dodge is so better, and it stacks with Break Tackle, which is great with ST 5.

And also a Blodge Mummy will terrify your opponent.MattDakka wrote:I wouldn't take Side Step on the Mummy.

But honestly, is a Blodge/MB mummy better than having two Mummies with the Block/Grab/Guard stack?MattDakka wrote:I wouldn't take Side Step on the Mummy.

I'm so torn on this one. Half of me is saying that I need the guard so I have a sort of double pivot in the middle - the two mummies protecting each other and everyone else - the other half of me wants a blodge/mb mummy so that, in the event he does get that monumental fourth skill, he's a total battering ram. The first option seems like the correct decision, if I'm honest - the safe bet. The second feels like a luxury selection, potentially fun but something I'll regret in all but a handful of circumstances. He doesn't get hit all that often to be fair, not since the other guy got guard. And he's only ever dodged once

And you got Guard on both Mummies, too (total 5 Guards).MattDakka wrote: The decision is up to you.

Shteve0, Guard on the Mummy for me. Not many games left to play, and only two Guards in the whole team

Edit: and I think you badly need Tackle, too. Maybe doesn't fit perfectly on the +Ag Ghoul, but you have to start somewhere

PS: the first Ghoul... is Ag3 or Ag4?

Re: [!] Undead team skillups?
Not been playing undead, but I can definately understand your problem deciding, both dodge and guard would be great on your mummy. I see guard as the best choice here and now, where dodge has greater potential. So if you need bang for the buck now - guard wins.
You need a mobile tackler and you don't have any ghouls getting close to the optimal wrestle/tackle combo so I'd go for that on your AG4, block guy. Ss and sure hands are also good choices but if there aren't many strip ballers around sure hands isn't as essential imo.

Re: [!] Undead team skillups?
I'd go with Side Step to push it into place.
Dodge is nice but with a max move of 5 or 4 and a blitz. It's not actually a hard job to get away from.

Re: [!] Undead team skillups?
I am going to suggest something a little different, the mummy I would seriously look at +Ma, I have found that at TV over 1600 dodge is a waste of time on a mummy, anyone that is actively attacking the player will have tackle, or if they are fodder they will have wrestle. If not the MA, jump up is worth considering, 4+ to throw a block when ur on the ground, makes him less likely to be fouled, otherwise, tackle, or guard would be good. I like frenzy on mummies but with grab thats not an option.
The ghoul, take fend, that way he may live long enough for another level up, tackle will get him hit. If not SS, but fend is GREAT on ghouls.
