Do you get rid of -ag Orc Blitzers?

Post by Runejack »

I've played Orcs in the local league two seasons now and found them quite fun! I lost in the semi final this season and suffered -ag on a 41spp blitzer. Do you retire him?
I've found that blitzers skill up quickly and my initial thought was that I might as well replace him as he has 3 normal skillups.

Here's the team: http://www.brawl.bloodbowlleague.com/de ... p=ro&t=spo

The player in question is Gordita who is a blitzer with Block, Mighty Blow, Tackle, Stand Firm, and -ag.

Thank you for the thoughts and opinions!

Joel

You can keep him in my opinion.
-1 AG is not a big issue for a killer, by the way he needs Piling On as soon as possible.

If you got 220k sitting in the treasury, replace him. One factor is how often you play the team also. If you play regularly easier to drop the skilled guy, if it's a slower league may be worth it to keep the killer around.

You have three better receiving targets - you can carry the -ag guy.

I would probably replace both the -AG players, on the basis that you have a nice nimble passing team with a bit of +AG and +MA, players with -AG look out of place on such a team, as they will inhibit its natural style.

Alternatively, you could just put these players on the LoS until they die.

However, retirement is not a black and white decision.

All the best.

I'd start by firing the other thrower. Two orc throwers with Strong Arm and Accurate is just too much redundancy. Keep the one with Block.

The -AG blitzer can stay and the lino is now perfect for los duty.

This.

And this (and fouling).

I'd personally fire the Blitzer. He's nothing special, and your bound to find there are times when you'll need to dodge him, or risk the pick up or catch, and you'll curse the AG2.
That's assuming you're intending to continue playing the team for a while though.

For my part, I would keep both Throwers, I don't regard them as redundant, they mean you can cover the entire backfield when receiving. I would give them both Kick-off Return at some point. I like the ball-handling skills of this team.

All the best.

I'd drop a thrower certainly. Orcs rely on their AV 9, and doubling your amount of vulnerabilities on the pitch is a very bad idea.

Aside from that, I'd drop the lino. Probably wouldn't drop the -AG blitzer. Wouldn't apo any further SI's on him either mind unless it was near the end of the game.

Thank you for the interesting feedback!

I hadn't really planned to keep the skillless -ag line orc but I do just stick him on the LOS as it is when he makes the pitch at all. He normally sits on the sidelines with my second thrower and goblin.

I found the commernts on my thrower very interesting. I hadn't planned to have two strong arm/accurate throwers, but I rolled a doubles and had made the decision early on (using some advice from the Doubleskulls Orc blog) that I wasn't going to be giving dodge out on every doubles. After suffering through a first season where I often didn't have my one thrower on the pitch due to MNG, I decided having a second backup was good.

I'm not retiring this team, but I had planned to use another team next season as our league is playing dungeon bowl as a change of pace. I find the blitzers skill up quite quickly, especially if you are trying to skill them up.

I think because it is the end of the season that I will get rid of him. I'll get rid of the line orc later when it's convenient. I still need to think about the second thrower.

For those of you who think the second thrower should go, would you replace him with a new one and skill him up a certain way?

Thanks,

Joel

I agree about firing the second thrower and no, I wouldn't hire another thrower.
You need just one thrower with Block, Leader, Kick Off Return, Tackle, (Dodge if you roll a double).
Developing a passing thrower is not worth it because you will rarely make passing plays, making them* a TV bloat in most matches.

edit:
* "them" refers to the passing skills :D

Agree with this. If you're effectively restarting and can afford it, I'd reboot towards this goal - if that leaves you without a sure hands, drop the -AG blitzer too. The fact that you're at a season start point gives you an opportunity to reassess in terms of TV value add. Trim that fat!

The advantage of a Thrower with additional passing skills is that he greatly helps the team when they need to score in 2 or 3 turns.

Nobody dismisses that or says that he's absolutely useless.
What I dismiss is that the 2-3 turns score is not a common tactic if you play well and, with AG 3 on the other end of the pass, passes are not very reliable anyway.
I developed a good orc thrower... and my conclusion is: yes, he can save the odd game and turn a defeat into a win or draw, but on the other hand, more often than not, he's just TV bloat.
Since I do care about the majority of my matches not the minority, the dedicated passing thrower is not an efficient player and I don't advise to have one.

And the disadvantage is that he's a massive TV drag the other 14, drastically increasing the likelyhood of you needing to use him for a long odds 2-3 turn TD.
