Str+ WE Thrower: how to develop?
I got a Str+ on a WE thrower on his first skill.
Under the assumption that he survives (ya right) what skills should I be giving him?
My first thoughts were just the standard slew of regular skills such as block/wrestle, tackle, dodge, frenzy, etc.
But then he becomes rather wasted as one of my two throwers. Should i consider giving him one or two throwing skills in there somewhere?
Keep in mind i will straight up ignore any 'tv bloat' based comments, so dont even bother. Str4 on an elf team is beautiful no matter who it's on.

I'd say turn him into a carrier, with Block and Dodge. If you get cute with him, he'll get hurt.

Then nos and safe throw so he can clear it from a scrum

Not much waste there. This guy doesn't need any passing skills. Block, Dodge and Side Step should keep him occupied for a while. After that Sure Hands, Tackle and Diving Tackle are all better choices than passing skills.Spaceman_Spiff wrote:But then he becomes rather wasted as one of my two throwers. I wouldn't bother... waste of 50k. Just turn him into uber passer.
Strong Arm, Safe throw, Accurate and the guy can practically put the ball anywhere, just keep him out the way. With ST4 you will want to be protecting the investment.
The guy stays out of range, moves in to make the pass and you score.

With ST4 blodge you have a great all round player. When he’s got the ball he’s harder to take down thus making it less likely you’ll lose the ball and give him a greater chance of survival. He still has AG4 and pass which is enough for pretty much all of the passes you’ll need to make, even wood elves don’t pass that much when done right.
More importantly he’s a great player when you don’t have the ball as you can use his strength on defence. Scoring with wood elves is rarely an issue so it’s defence where you’ll usually win the game. A ST4 player will add to your defensive weapons and be a help alongside 2 wardancers.
+ST is only a waste on a select few players (snotlings for instance) but NoS, safe throw and strong arm are of very limited use.
Finally +ST only comes along 1 in 36 times so has an added cool factor, if he lives you’ll have the chance to get more doubles and stats to make a truly memorable player.

I just state the difference of oppinion.
With blodge you are looking at 180k of player.
It's a bloody WE, AV7 of amour pentration of doom all over it.

Congratulations! You now have your ball runner, who can pass it in a pinch when you need to one turn.
Spubbba and Matt are right. +ST Blodge is a good elf.
If you really want to play with the insanity that is passing the ball, buy a second thrower.

Re: Str+ WE Thrower: how to develop?
Mark my words. If you play him as a runner, he will eventually want to throw it. Pass is not wasted, it's just not as good as a skill you would take.
Pass + AG4 is great for punting, btw. With ST4 and MA7, this guy is the best player to take advantage of that rare situation. Not that it comes up a lot, but a lot of rare applications do add up to an uncommon or better one.

Blodge and leader, order depending on how desperate you are for another reroll.
Problem with throwing leader throwers is that often they aren't ideal to play on defence as all they really are then is glorified linos you're worried about getting hurt. A strength 4 player is too much TV not to play all the time and Blodge will make him quite survivable.

Re: Str+ WE Thrower: how to develop?
Thanks guys. That was pretty much what I was thinking as far as going the blodge route.
Also mentioning that having a 'runner' with pass is useful makes me less worried about wasting one of my throwers.
Here's hoping he lives for a while

Should he live to 76 SPP, you might consider Nerves of Steel. ST4 Blodge SH Nerves is awesome. Dump-off or Safe Throw at Legend for even more shenanigans.
