1530 Pro Elf vs 1870 Necromantic
Good afternoon,
In the knock-out cup for our local league, I'm listed to play my Pro Elves against a Necromantic team.
My Pro Elf team consists of:
2 Blitzers (1 Dodge/Fend/Guard; 1 Dodge/Tackle)
1 Thrower (Block/Strong Arm/Sure Hands)
2 Catchers (1 Block/Dodge)
7 Linemen (2 Block; 1 Block/MA5; 1 Guard)
3 Re-Rolls, 9 Fan Factor, Apothecary, 1 Ass. Coach, 1 Cheerleader
The Necromantic team of my opponent is:
2 Flesh Golems (2 Block)
2 Ghouls (1 Block/Dodge/AG5; 1 Block/Dodge/Jump Up/Side Step)
2 Wights (1 Leader/AG4; 1 Guard/STR4)
2 Werewolves (1 Dodge/Mighty Blow; 1 Block/Dodge/Mighty Blow/1x Niggling Injury)
6 Zombies (3 Block; 1 Block/Tackle)
3 Re-Rolls, 8 Fan Factor
With the $340k in inducements, the only options I see are:
- Hubris Rakarth (260) + Bloodweiser Babe (50)
- Prince Moranion (230) + Wandering Apothecary (100)
- Wizard (150) + Freebooted Catcher (130) + Bloodweiser Babe (50)
- Halfling Master Chef (300)
The only problem is that I'm not sure as to what the better option would be. Hubris gives me Strip Ball and Mighty Blow, whereas Moranion gives me Tackle and Wrestle.
With the Wizard only being in effect for a single turn (and the Chef being a big gamble), while the Star Players can (with some luck) used for the entire game, my favour would go out to either Hubris or Moranion, but my experience with either is non-existing.
Any advice on what the better choice would be?

I like the wizard as an option. Necro have two fragile players with the ghoul, and that wolf with a niggle.
If you really want a star as well, drop the MA5 guy and then you'll have 430 in inducements - enough for the wizard with 280k left.

My gut is telling me you should take the Prince and 2 babes. You can use the extra tackle in both offence and defence, but you can only strip ball in defence.

You already have Tackle on your team, and your opponent has no Sure Hands:
Cut the Cheerleader/Assistant Coach, get Hubris Rakarth and a Bribe (he has DP too, you know), kick ass.

Eldrill is an option?
Dropping an ass. coach you can get Eldrill + Wizard, both good for defensive td.

Have you considered taking Eldril ? (for 200)
it's a very good catcher (you have only 2 catchers, it's not enough in my opinion for this roster), and the hypno gaz could be helpfull...
but i do like your 3 first options:
- the Hubris option is good because you don't have any stripball in your team, when your oponent has no surehands
- the moranio bring you a tackle/wrestle (against 4 blodge...)
- wizard + Freebooted catcher could be nice as well, but maybe it would be better with a simple skill (you have no Kick in your team! or a catcher dodge)
And could you take special cards as inducements ?

Hot Pot.
Taking rerolls means there's a lot of safety gone. Then you can hunt that AG5 Ghoul.

Re: 1530 Pro Elf vs 1870 Necromantic
Cheers for the advice so far.
@swilhelm73:
I don't necesarily want a star, but with 12 versus 14 players, it gives me an extra guy on the pitch. That is why my rundown starts with them and why I wouldn't favour dropping the MA5 Block lineman.
@Dr. Von Richten:
Not sure what team you're looking at, but Niels' Necromantic doesn't have a player with Dirty Player.
@MKL:
I tried Eldrill a couple of times, but so far, he is the least favourite of my options. Perhaps that has more to do with my playstyle (which is rather agressively), but to me, he is a catcher with skills I wouldn't generally consider.
@babass:
Not sure. I do believe our league allows them, but haven't considered taking them.

What is Nuffle's view? Through a window, two-by-three. He peers through snake eyes.
What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

Re: 1530 Pro Elf vs 1870 Necromantic
Exactly: Hubris Rakarth has got Dirty Player too (as in, 'in addition to all his other features'), so a Bribe is useful for fouling with him. Also, remember there's a bounty on that AG 5 Ghoul ... just sayingmattgslater wrote:I think he was talking about Rakarth.Vinz D. wrote:@Dr. Von Richten:

However, I forgot you can take Eldril; Hypnotic Gaze could be huge, so I'd seriously consider him as well.

Re: 1530 Pro Elf vs 1870 Necromantic
Edril and if you can drop cheerleaders/assistant coaches (not actually within the rules iirc) before the next game, a wizard. If not bbabes or an extra Apo.
Strip ball is great but you need to be able to target his BC and if you need a 5+ dodge it aint worth the risk imo.
Edril is the best star player imo, especially against caging teans. If the necros form a loose cage to negate him then great, you're Ag4 and he will have to be very careful and most likely score quite quickly as it is easier to put him under pressure.
Do protect him though, he is weak, with just st 3 and dodge.
If you really don't want him, get the Prince and target his niggled wolf and Ag5 ghoul. Dp and star players dont mix especially for elves, even with a bribe.
EDIT
Oh and dont bother with the chef, really not worth it.
