Image too big to be included in forum. :(
For the record, a lot of the graininess/texture on the model's paint comes from finishing it off with a drybrush of phosphorescent paint, the pigment of which is rather coarse. But hey, I wanted the glow-in-the-dark effect! :-)
Glow in the dark? Not fluo? Then why not paint the model with this paint as smooth as possible, and cover deep areas with normal dark paint or wash? Just an idea to keep the look but less grainy surface.

Yup, glow-in-the-dark paint, "Revell Night Color" to be precise.

I do not exagerate when I say that the pigment in this paint is very coarse - if you cover a surface with it, you end up with a texture that feels abrasive and almost sandpapery (you know the finest grain sandpaper you can find? close to that). Plus it doesn't spread evenly and leaves a lot of transparency where the pigment doesn't set.

With your sugestion, in a miniature with such intricate detail (it's a Paul Muller sculpt after all...), I'd end up losing a lot of detail and would have to cover areas with more paint, etc. As it is, I use this stuff only for the ocasional highlight or oddball effects. :-)

Ah, OK, I thought it was caused by the drybrushing, and full coats would be smooth.
