Of course, this is just a guess but maybe they'll use something similar to what Cyanide implemented for Blood Bowl 2?

IIRC, players are hired at age 17 to 19. And then there is this on the BB2 website:
Over the course of the matches, the players age. After a while, there's a chance they'll retire.
The players age 1 year every 8 matches
A player who has played for 13 years has a 40% of chance of retiring
A player who has played for 14 years has a 60% of chance of retiring
A player who has played for 15 years has a 100% of chance of retiring
Maybe they'll adjust the numbers a bit?
I mean, if 8 matches are considered to be one year and after 13 years of playing for the team ist the first chance of him wanting to retire, that makes 104 matches. And 120 matches before he definitely retires. That is a lot for table top, isn't it?

But then, can you imagine the nightmare of counting matches played for every player individually?
I mean, your starting lineup usually has 11 to 12 players, meaning at least 4 will enter the team at a later point in time. And theres injured and killed players to be replaced.
Nope, forget it, that probably won't be working with table top Blood Bowl.

And really hope they don't split up the rules to be released with later releases, like fouling coming with the skaven or retirement coming with whatever expansion.

And what about all those undead teams? If ageing was effectively in place, any Khemri team would retire instantly after hiring!

After taking another look at the 'League Roster Sheet', maybe you simply count the actual played seasons in your league? There is a column called 'seasons completed'.
Maybe the column 'want to retire' is just the raising chance you have to make a check on after each game?

And there is another thing I just spotted: On the bottom it says 'League Points'. Something new?

Another interesting development is that BB may be sold through GW stores. The original plan was for it to be sold through Forgeworld only, but it appears that decision could change. Being sold in GW stores would help visibility massively.

the Wants to Retire piece could work a little like a limiting factor of spiralling expenses? Pay to keep a player beyond the point he is wanting to retire.

so its not a stat decrease/niggle in ageing and its not an auto retire ala Cyanide but a constant post match upkeep or he calls it quits?

might work but prob still very optional for leagues i guess if people dont like it

of course could be something completely different

I think the rules are pretty much there. CLAWPOM is a problem only in online play, and there only because people break it by playing teams for too long. I mean 400 games with one team! what is that about? Some players are arguably under costed, others are arguably over costed, but it works as is. If it did not the game would not still be thriving after 10 years of neglect.

Aging/retirement does not bother me, I would not play a team for more than 20-40 games anyway and would argue that such rules can be ignored up to that point. I would prefer a rule saying that teams retire at 50 games but could imagine the outcry. It's a tabletop game that works well in that environment, online there is always going to be somebody who finds the way to break it no matter what you do. Rather than retirement what about a decent bank rule?

Now a confession, I was firmly in the push off Granny we don't need you anymore camp. But it's looking hopeful that at this point they are not messing with something that is not broken. This is a good thing

I probably won't bother with the boxed set but I'll definitely pick up Death Zone as that's likely going to have any rules above and beyond that we could implement in our league.

This will all go to pot if the box is ridiculously cheap though as I don't trust my resilience in my firm "don't need it" stance :D

im hoping for £70 which would in my opinion still be relatively high when you compare it to other hobby board games with miniatures (Imperial Assault retails for 60-65 and has more minis/counters and an expensive license to factor in).

I'll get it to own and support it but you know what, it won't really change my BB enjoyment because guess what? I have everything already I need to play and I'm non plussed on the humans (favourite race). The rules may change in a minor way with some flourishes around fluffy stuff like trick plays and/or racial balls or whatever but the blitz, pass, foul, block, move stuff will be the same old mental gymnastics of strategy vs tactics, risk vs reward it has always been and thats a good thing

I will say I was pleasantly surprised by a friend (non gamer according to my prior knowledge) who last night messaged me about BB and the new release turning him back on to the game and that he might pick it up "and have some geek paint the minis" so I am all for the re-release and continued support as it will hopefully grow the community.

My guess is that "Core" rules are the basic rules of how to play a Blood Bowl game, especially stuff that comes up during play. Number of block dice rolled is core. Player stats are core. What skills do, when you can use rerolls.

I think non-core is stuff like, how to run a league. How do you make the schedule? How do you resolve tie games? Does that change in the playoffs? The sort of stuff that every league tends to do differently, and which are riddled with house rules anyway.

For the record, the Tabletop league I play in isn't planning to change anything immediately. We vote on rule changes between seasons, if there's anything enough of us like, we'll start using it.

I disliked every ageing rule, simply because I don't like losing players that way. I can deal with it if someone is killed on the pitch, but some idiot rule that my 5000 year old Tomb Guardian suddenly wants to, what, go fishing and make McMurty's commercials? So I'd like to say that I'm keeping an open mind out on the "Wants to retire" rule, but I'm seriously biased against it already ;)

I flipped through the rulebook yesterday on the 'Spiel' in Essen, they look pretty familiar like the current ones. Just saw the basics though. You seem to get 'basic rules' and 'league rules'. The latter probably being the current ones.

Minis are decent, just a tad too big imho :). When I asked them when the game would be out, the answer was 'soon'. Couldnt get more specifics.

Thera seem to be planst o make more teams, but it's kinda vague. When will the price be announced for the boxed set (or, what will be the price?) answer: soon.

Did see some kind of ref, no igmeoy though. A goblin and a halfling ref with a catcher mitt.

Box they had on display was a production sample they pulled of the shelves, they said. Probably true :).

Will see if I can get some pics up... probably later today/tonight at work now. More or less :)

A few comments on "the core rules are not changing"

Extreme & unlikely:
If you look at the rulebook, hand offs and GFI are "Extra Rules." The "Core" could be defined as just the first 15 pages of CRP. They could change rosters, skills, inducements, weather, . . . and still say they kept the "core rules."

Already stated and/or likely:
Star players are changing. (Zara is disappearing.)
Each player gets special play cards for every match. (Was stated in video.) This also means that in at least some way inducements are changing.
Size
Trap Door (more info to come)

I am optimistic that they are not screwing things up too much, but I do think there will be significant changes. My concerns are things that change the rosters. That will be the one thing that pisses me off, and this probably includes aging.

6 sculpts, 2 copies of each, and seems to confirm they are plastic and all 3 teams so far would match the 3 linos plus 3 positionals per sprue.

Hints: cape (runner), tail with ball (thrower), blades (blitzer), tail down and open hand, tail up to one side, tail up to other side (the three linos).

Not in short leagues. My club plays short leagues and has had one clawpomber in all the time I have been there (mine), three games after I got him the league reset. This was a shame for me but good for all off us and kept the league healthy. As I said if you don't play a team for ever then the problem does not arrive. Fumbbl leagues where people play over 100 games with a team have an issue, on table top (where I play) it has never been an issue.
