I think I'm with Thads on this one. Seems there's been a lot of work to stretch the little guy into a catagory that he's not designed for. So exceptions upon exceptions are created (I.e. piling on not hurting him despite the fact he's down) and we lose the value of the dwarf dr as just a good, wacky, secret weapon. The problem, seems to me, is the game has moved away from the secret weapons for the longest time, and may now only be heading back towards their use with the cursory bb mag rules.

Okay, first, I want to point out that a member of RUNCORN and the NBA jsut agreed on something. <Ducks and covers>

However, I agree with both of them. As a dwarf player, I want to add a Deathroller to my team, but I'm perfectly happy to do so as a secret weapon. I don't think I like the idea of making it a Big Guy, if for no other reason than the fact that there are more rules for this one player than any other player so far, and that's just to cover exceptions. Too much work for too little gain. Far easier to just use it as a Secret Weapon.

Making a deathroller the big guy for the Dwarf team would be fairly easy. Make it a 4 6 1 9, Mighty Blow, Break Tackle, Mechanical Monstrosity.

(Remember that *the* Deathroller is a star player)

"Mechanical Monstrosity - If the Deathroller is knocked over, its movement is considered to be halved for the next turn. The driver must attempt to right the machine at a 4+ to get it functional again. If the Deathroller's armor is broken, any stunned results are automatically upgraded to K.O.'s."

The roller has a chance to be a real terror on the pitch, but is certainly a risky piece of machinery to use.

I would rather they just took away the ogre than took away the ogre and messed about with the deathroller (which is FINE AS IT IS IN JKL'S RULES) to try an make it a big guy.

I'm not sure I really like the idea either, upon further reflection.

I'm not 100% sure if the dwarf team needs a BG...I have one on my current team but was getting by alright without it in the beginning.

The end-zone “line of death” does not discriminate when one tempts fate by using a “go for it” to pass over it.

The only thing I want to see if they do take away the ogre from Dwarfs is Woodies, Humans and Norse losing them too, with Orcs, Halflings and Goblins losing Ogre Access.

I'm also very much in favour of Big Guys being in place of position players - an Ogre for a Chaos Warrior, a Krox for a Saurus etc.

Actually, that is an interesting twist on the BG idea...basically forcing a team to give up a "specialty position player" for a BG instead.

I've put this forward a few times. My theory was that if two positional players = one big guy, as the LRB seemed to indicate when they changed rosters, why not give everyone access to a big guy if they cut two of their positions? It hasn't been met with a lot of enthusiasm, though. :)

I just want to point out that I absolutely do not care if the Dwarf Team NEEDS a Big Guy. They don't need 12 Longbeards either.

I tell you the Death roller is simply a cool feature a great Miniature and a nice oportunity to get some extra rules into the game.

Sometimes in this forum i get the feeling there should be a Linemen only version of Blood Bowl without any Stars or Big Guys. There is such a game already and its perfectly balanced. Its called Chess.

A Ogre on a Dwarf team is Plain Stupid. In 3rd edition you could have 4 Deathrollers PERMANENTLY and you know what nobody used them regardlessly.

The only thin I can agree here is that a Dwarf team with a Deathroller must not be necesarily better or worse than one without it.

Why humans? They always had ogres according to the fluff, and I like that idea.

I think Thadrin would like to see BGs removed from most teams...right?

The Deathroller is definately cool, and I'd love to use it, but that is nothing to do with the conversation we're having.

There is a rule for 99% of your ideas Toby...its RULE BLOAT, and is not generally regarded as a good thing.

Let's for Nuffle's sake keep Deathrollers and big guy discussions seperate, because to my mind they have nothing to do with each other whatsoever. Deathrollers should be Secret weapons and there is no way on earth anything will ever change my view on that.
