Should the cards be brought back??

Yes, I'd like them back exactly the way they were.

About the cards... again

Post by roysorlie »

Last time I posted this poll, people said it was strongly biased. I belive the reason for that is because it was. :wink:

So, in the spirit of neutrality and objectivity, I'll repost it.

Ok, this is also an issue between what I experiance to be "newbies" and "oldies" on the forum. Most of the oldies are die hard BB fanatics, who's played the game since, I dunno, forever. I Might be one of them, having played since 94, i dunno..

ANYWAY, the point is, most newbies miss the cards. They get completely overrun by the likes of the grumpier "oldies" on this forum.

My experiance, and many "newbies" experiance as well tend to be that their home leagues miss the cards, and find the handicap table useless and boring. All the "oldies" and fanatics who spend 2 hours a day just traversing this forum (and other BB related stuff) argue against the cards for game balance over long tearm leagues set up against team management, predictability bla bla bla...

At any rate, Absolutely huge amounts of BB players who never visit this forum miss the cards. The bit of unpredictability, the randomness, and the feeling you get from holding your cards tighly to your chest while grinning evily at your opponent.

Now, I belive the oldies have a lot more BB experiance, and know well how the cards effect the game in short and long term. But there must be some way to please all parties in this issue.

Hence this poll, which I belive will not be overly biased.
Vote away, and please keep post at a constructive level.

For some reason the window crashed when i tried to post this. I voted for the handicap table with the addition of Galak's idea. I will also add this possibility, how about making the 5 option on the handicap being either choosing a roll on the table or a random card from any one deck.

:lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: I'm an "oldie fanatic" at the venerable age of 26!

The cards were fun for a time, as were adding wizards to your roster permenantly. Unfortunately, they were a broken game mechanic that could greatly influence the game. With cards, the game is less about strategy and more about who draws "the good stuff." I don't think it's a good thing.

So I guess I've proved the grumpy part??? :wink:

I voted last option.

I would suggest to split up "The Cards" in the their very 3 Categories.

A. Random Events;
That could be what is now the Handicap Table, but there should always be at least one Random Event every Match, even if there is no Team Rating Difference at all.

B. Magic Items;
There are some cool rules for BUYING MAGIC ITEMS. With the Secret Weapon Rules just around the corner, that concept of buying equipment could be expanded to some more stuff.

C. Dirty Tricks;
Here I want to see CARDS. And only cards, no tables. Every of the 15 Teams gets 5 Dirty Tricks. Those Dirty Tricks must not be unique, so maybe Humans and Dwarfs share 2 of the same Tricks and so do Humans and Orcs share one Trick. U get the idea ? Ok, now, at the beginning of a match you buy a dirty trick much the same way like hireing a wizard. If you don't use your trick, its wasted and you have to buy anotherone next gaem. Call it Freebooting Dirty Tricks.

NOTE.

With Secret Weapons, Freebooted Starplayers and other possible money stealing Features I would like to see more Money in the Game. Suggestion: Roll a D8 instead of a D6 for Game Winnings.

I voted for the handicap table with revisions.

I like the cards from the previous versions (and the league I run still use them over the handicap table) but the main problem with them as I see it (and as Skummy stated above) was that it comes down to the 'luck of the draw'. Even the higher rated team can get cards which, in most cases, would cancel out the effect of it being a handicap in the first place. The other problem with the cards is that there are too many cards that 'cause a turn over automatically'.

The end-zone “line of death” does not discriminate when one tempts fate by using a “go for it” to pass over it.

ROBBED!

Post by Snarlton Heston »

I loved this card!

I was playing in the championship game against elves. I drew the card at the beginning of the game and sat on it for the entire game. I was so relaxed during the entire game, because I already won. It didn't matter what happened on the field. My dwarves lost 3-0. During the post-game sequence, I waited until my opponent said, "What did you have?"

TIME FOR A WORD FROM OUR SPONSORS:

Blood Bowl box set: $50.00
Death Zone box: $25.00
Fuel to reach game store to play the championship: $5.00
Two egg sandwiches for lunch: $2.50
Watching my opponent's jaw drop after pocketing 350,000 gold pieces:

PRICELESS!

DICKED, YA: Don't leave home without it!

:D

At least, bring back SOME of the cards!

I'm glad to see the back of the cards, which could turn a game just on one lucky/unlucky (dependent on your point of view) draw. I voted for the reduce the strength of the handicap table, because that need doing, but I wanted to vote

However, I'm all for bringing the chaos back, and I think scrapping the kick off table and replacing it with a table based on the old random event cards, which gets rolled on whenever someone rolls snake eyes on an armour roll. This would include stuff like "Woof Woof", "Burst Ball", "The chuck", "Pit Trap", and possibly even variations of stuff like "Sewer map" from (I think) the dirty tricks.

Then we could incorporate Galak's idea with a table rather than cards for Dirty Tricks (assistant coaches) and come up with a rule for cheerleaders (maybe having a Cheerleader roll at each kick off - roll d6 for each two cheerleaders you own, on at least one six you get an extra reroll for this drive.)...so you can count an extra vote for that as well.

Keep it simple for the support staff:
Asst. Coaches=roll to get one Dirty Trick table item/card
Cheerleaders=roll to get one Random Event table item/card
Wizards=roll to get one Magic Item table item/card

Then edit the table items/cards like the MBBL2 did to get rid of the ones that suck.

Like I said, its a system that the MBBL2 coaches liked enough to veto me over when I tried to get rid of it. And the best part is ... it really makes players take ACs and CLs. I've had one team with 13 Cheerleaders and another with 12 Assistant Coaches at some points during the history of the MBBL2.

Good Idea about the cheerleaders and ACs

Post by Snarlton Heston »

The idea for the cheerleaders and ACs is great. This would make them more valuable and a welcomed addition to the game. They are definitely lagging right now. In our league, there are few of both! Coaches don't bother spending $ for something that rarely comes into play.

I'm fine with the idea - if we could come up with a set of "own crowd" type efects for the Cheerleaders.

I'd like to see non-team based random events also come into play, hence the "snake eyes armour roll" idea - a hang over from 2nd ed.

Take what the MBBL2 has and throw in a new table (lets remember we have to have tables for the board game not cards) for the real nutso stuff.
