I know first hand how annoying those doubles or stat increases can be....

There I was, unexperienced skaven coach, first skill for a thrower a double.
"great, here comes a good passer", I thought then, taking strong arm, completely overlooking big hand.

With accurate next, he'll be golden!

But the next skill is +ma, so I take that, since speed is good. accurate can wait.
And the next skill is +ma again, so we take that. who needs accurate when you can move that much.

And the next skill is + str. and the one after that is + ag.

So there you are, 5 skill rolls later, and the poor thrower is now a 9 4 4 6, pass, sure hands, strong arm... And still no accurate!

Talk about a development plan that wasn't to be...

The agility increase is just as good as accurate.
I wouldn't complain at all if I had a skaven thrower with that stat line.

I might complain a little if I had a player like that without block and a 6 armor...

the complaining was done mostly tongue in cheek kind of thing, true.

thing is, I'd given up on accurate after the str increase, thinking of going for block and making a fragile Blitzer of him. Of course, then he has to roll the ag increase....

Needless to say, I'm fearing every roll I have to make that might involve him going down and not getting up.

Same thing goes for the other skaven thrower on that team now. He developed into the dedicated thrower as planned, with accurate, safe throw, + ag. and then I went and gave him pro (to RR the failed safethrows) as 4th skill instead if block, thinking he isn't likely to get involved in hitty stuff anyway.

Of course, his next advance was + Str as well... blockless.
Strange Skaven, mine...

I got an advance for an Ork lineman a bit back. He got +1 AG. I sacked him. For two reasons:

1. He also rolled a double 1 for his aging and picked up a niggler.
2. What use is that? All I ever use linemen for is speed bumps to stick in front of enemy bashers. I thought of trying to use him to improve my passing game, but with M5 he's only ever going to be of limited use.

NB this was before I heard you can trade in a stat increase for a normal skill even if it's not a double. But I would probably have fired him for the niggler anyway.

:o My favorite player right now is an Orc Lineman who gained +1 Agility, then rolled doubles and picked up dodge. He later gained block and changed his name to "Elf Poser." I've even got a special figure for him - an orc thrower with both hands free and a green stuffed tutu that's going to have a hideous pink and purple flower pattern.

4 agility is always useful.

No kidding. You made a mistake with that orc lineman.
