We have a house ruled free agency system, so you'd be able to bid on that player with his increased SPP cost at the end of the season. If another team that can hire the same player has the money, they can bid on him too...

Officially no, you can't buy that exact same player. They are freebooters after all, going from team to team, playing games for everyone. Mercenaries, if you will. They do not wish to be tied down to one team.

Perfectly acceptable to houserule it different though, as with everything.
