I voted the availability option. In all honestly, I have stayed out of the whole Big Buy debate due to the fact that I just don't have that much experience with them. In my third edition league, only two teams had them, my human team, and a chaos team. And really, they did nothing to make either team better, but they were fun to field. :)

However, reading the posts made by other people here, I can see that there needs to be a reduction teams that have access to big guys.

I voted for the "perfect as is" option. I'd like to respond to some of what other people have mentioned and to other voting options.

1) Does "Bonehead" need to be more negative? I guess it depends on what you believe the point of Bonehead is. If you believe that Bonehead is something that is supposed to make Big Guy's a bit unpredictable and unreliable then I think that it is fine; the current version of Bonehead will probably keep your Big Guy from doing anything for two or three turns per match. Also, for those two/three turns your Big Guy won't have any tackle zones, meaning you can't rely on him to "hold the line" against opposing players trying to run through. If you believe that Bonehead is supposed to make Big Guys difficult to use and/or a significant liability (like Really Stupid) then I can see why you would think that Bonehead should be made to be more negative. However, in my opinion that's what Really Stupid is for, that isn't the point of Bonehead.

2) Does "Wild Animal" need to be changed? Again, I guess it depends on whether or not you think Wild Animal is supposed to be a bit inconvenient or a real handicap. Wild Animal does a great job of being an inconcenience. With an Ogre you can throw blocks against players next to the Ogre to free him up for a Blitz. You can't do that with a wild animal because the wild animal would have to throw a block first. Similarly, you can throw blocks against an opponent's line to open a passage for an Ogre to blitz through, but you can't do that with a wild animal. If Wild Animal were changed to become a liability then people wouldn't use wild animals at all.

3) Do Big Guys need to made less available? Or do all teams need to have a Big Guy? I guess I just don't worry about it very much. If my opponent has a team with a Big Guy and I don't then I just do my best to stay away from the Big Guy. Or I place a few guys two square away from the Big Guy to prevent it from Blitzing my ball carrier or another key player. Or if the Big Guy ever becomes isolated you can swarm him, block/Blitz him to put him onto the ground, and then have a Dirty Player foul him with a +4 to the armour roll because of all the players around him and then a +2 to the injury roll. There are a number of ways to get around a Big Guy without having one yourself.

I don't include Big Guys on the teams I player because (1) I play teams that don't have Big Guys or (2) I'd much rather spend the money on more position players. But at the same time I don't fault coaches who want to use them because they are just another interesting kind of player to use.

Best,
-Jerhod-

Everyone on this board has their own opinion, if any 2 are exactly the same I'd be shocked. The options can really be broken down into "Minor Tweak" or "Major Revision". Since none of us are really important enough to have much effect on the rules, I'd just like to see how widespread dissatisfaction with big guys really is. There were a couple I'd vote for too, but since I can't put in multiple choices I just go with the biggest one.

Yeah, hard to choose an option there. I don't have a lot of experience either, but I feel like I'm seeing too many Big Guys. One of my human teams has just had their Ogre killed, and I'm seriously considering not replacing him. It's just figuring out how am i going to deal with evrybody elses BG's without one that has me pondering. I went for the reduce availability option

Take Dauntless on a couple of guys if the opportunity presents itself...

The end-zone “line of death” does not discriminate when one tempts fate by using a “go for it” to pass over it.

Already taken one on a blitzer, thinking about whether I need another on a blitzer or if it's a skill a lineman could use. Think I'll take a 4th catcher, that could be a fun offense :)

IMO, Dauntless is a lineman skill. I give human blitzers Dodge on doubles, as that's going to be used more often, and they have the extra movement.

Amazon, Dwarf, High Elf, Dark Elf, Wood Elf, Khemri, Undead, Necromancy, Vampire - None
Humans, Norse - Ogre
Chaos Dwarves, Orc, Goblin - Troll
Chaos - Minotaur
Halflinig - Treeman
Lizardmen - Kroxigor
Skaven - Rat Ogre

...not want to see this list, or any other, do is change the current 'Big Guy' star players...
I'll second that motion. Also, with regard to Martyn's comments on Wild Animal, I'd disagree. The very fact that you can't play him on the line and have to very careful with his positioning each turn IS an effect that happens each turn. The coach may not have to roll for his negatrait, but it's definitely there. :)

Just my thoughts...

BIG GUYS

Post by Snarlton Heston »

IMHO, every team should be allowed to have an Ogre. In fact, I will suggest two Ogres per team.....especially the dwarf teams! :D

Every dwarf team needs an Orge to shore up the middle so you can protect the perimeter. Our short legs can only go so fast!

You also need them to destroy the elves!

If Bonehead becomes more negative (for example by making that he is as the new takeroot (bbrc)) I would not worry about the availability... But I would love that one does not limit too much the ogre, who is a hireling above all, I find disagree that halflings and goblins loses him because they needed it he seems to me.
I don't know if The minotaure is traditionally associated to the Norses ?
