Ahem!! I Beat him 3-0 he didn't cause a single casualty against me having got one player sent off first turn, my Mummy seriously Injured one of the other dirty players next turn, and with the eye on him, he wouldn't risk another foul.McDeth wrote:friendly or tourney i think it makes no diff, I played someone with three dirty players in a tourney once, as Longfang will also attest, we both beat him. I only foul for a tactical advantage in tourneys or leagues, but in leagues may be more often because i'd have almost certainly built up a dirty player to target the oppo's best player if i can get at him.

In tournaments i foul when i need it, but usually i foul alot with my Chaos Dwarfs and i usually get at least on Dirty Player Hobgoblin.
It's a simple calculation: my Hobgoblin costs 40k and almost every other player will be more expensive and more dangerous to me. Fouling is a great tactics to eliminate the opponent's key players (Wardancers, Catchers and Blitzers come to mind, but esp. Throwers who are usually hard to reach in the backfield). Esp. if you are unlucky with casualty rolls.

back in 3rd edition, fouling was DEFINITELY more prominent in tourneys, at least the one I went to. all the 'friendly' niceties were out the window and you played to win. ip's were called, time limits enforced, cards and wizzos used to absolute top effectiveness, etc etc. btw not to brag but just to point out it can be done, I won the blood bowl tourney in our local league with a wood elf team in that sort of environment.
now in lrb, i haven't played in any major tourneys yet, but i'm betting that igmeoy will have a major effect on cutting down on the fouling. like somebody already said, people who generally foul will foul, ppl who generally don't probably wont.

Today, my opponent fouled 3 times with the ref watching him, and didn't get a single player thrown out that way (though one was almost thrown out but successfully argued). He did get a player thrown out when the ref was NOT watching him. Some people need to realize that IGMEOY is really not very intimidating at all.

well zombie, you're usually mr. statistics here...you know that's not how it usually works. it's intimidating enough, it means that even with a DP, you are just about as likely to get ejected as get a casualty. so it means you have to choose who you foul very carefully, and not just foul whoever is down like you used to.Zombie wrote:Today, my opponent fouled 3 times with the ref watching him, and didn't get a single player thrown out that way (though one was almost thrown out but successfully argued). From the effect it's had on fouling I would say it's very intimidating.Zombie wrote:Today, my opponent fouled 3 times with the ref watching him, and didn't get a single player thrown out that way (though one was almost thrown out but successfully argued). I think what you are trying to say is that, in your opinion, the effect of IGMEOY does not justify such intimidation.
Could this interpretation be coloured by the fact that your league played with the much harsher version og IGMEOY for some time, anything less is likely to seem slightly 'weak' by comparison.

The short answer is "no", but it is a qualified "no" because there are odd ways of interpreting the question which could justify the answer "yes".

Depends on the race. With undead (cheap 30k linemen worth crap on the pitch), i'd still foul every turn with the ref watching me, as long as i had a dirty player nearby. With dwarves of course, like i said above, it's another story. I think the ref is intimidating you way too much. You should try fouling with the ref watching you, you'll see that it's still very powerful. Not too powerful mind you; just enough.wesleytj wrote:well zombie, you're usually mr. statistics here...you know that's not how it usually works. it's intimidating enough, it means that even with a DP, you are just about as likely to get ejected as get a casualty. so it means you have to choose who you foul very carefully, and not just foul whoever is down like you used to.Zombie wrote:Today, my opponent fouled 3 times with the ref watching him, and didn't get a single player thrown out that way (though one was almost thrown out but successfully argued). No, what i'm saying is that everywhere i play, most people aren't very intimidated by it. This is true for my league, but it's also true for at least one other league i've joined only a month ago, and i don't think these guys have ever used IGMEOY before.Munkey wrote:From the effect it's had on fouling I would say it's very intimidating.

A lot of people on this board also don't seem intimidated by it at all, as can be seen from their posts. But others on this board seem intimidated, and my guess is that it's only because they haven't yet tried to foul with the ref watching a couple times a game, and seen how good it is.
