I must know if those of you with set schedules for your league are playing real life BB or online BB?
Real life BB is really quite impossible to keep a schedule and doesn't fit the fluff either. People are in and out, get in car accidents, get women pregnant, have puking kids, take too much LSD the day before the league night, forget to take their ritalin, go play Shadowfist instead, on and on. I don't want to wait weeks and weeks because the guy I'm scheduled to play doesn't show up or can't play, then *I* can't play and that's just unacceptable.

For a large league, like yours, this is probably true. I run a very small league, where open play just won't work (I'd end up playing the same team over and over). So a schedule works best, and works just fine as far as I am concerned.littlemute wrote:I must know if those of you with set schedules for your league are playing real life BB or online BB?

At times like these I am reminded of the immortal words of Socrates, who said "... I drank what?"

Same here...we play table-top BB with set schedules, and currently have 15 coaches (we gain +/-2 per season).Skummy wrote:We've got a tabletop set schedule with about 11 members and well over 30 teams.

The end-zone “line of death” does not discriminate when one tempts fate by using a “go for it” to pass over it.

play in open leagues so you don't have this problem to begin with. play who you want when you want.

Yes, open league is much easier on the league commish, but if you have players that are dedicated enough and can get them to adhere to a schedule, definately go for it!!!
When people want to start a league they start thinking 16 players, two divisions, schedules, cups for this that, etc. But the reality is ~10 players, half of which don't show up on a given week, tournaments are seeded with the "whoever's here" method and some coaches just don't like playing against certain other coaches (they smell, they cheat, they whine too much, or the most common: take too damn long with their turns!).
I want to help run a league that anyone can walk in and get a game and choose their own level of involvement. Some people are hardcore, others drift in and out and either way is ok by both the other coaches and the league commisioners.
