Skills for Orc Thrower and Gobbo
Hey everyone!
Either there is not a lot of advice for Orc development around or I am just not able to find it...
Anyway, I have an Orc thrower to give another skill to and also a Goblin who earned himself a skillup.
This is my current set up:
Orcs
Blitzer 1: Block, Mighty Blow
Blitzer 2: Block, Mighty Blow
Blitzer 3 + 4: Block
Black Orc: 1 - 3: Block
Black Orc 4: nothing
Troll: Block
Thrower: Sure Hands, Pass,?
Lineorc 1: Dirty Player
Goblin: ?
TV: 1350
RR: 3
FF: 5
Apoth: yes
The last two games I mainly used my Goblin to score touchdowns (yeah, I know... I should rather let the Blitzers do that, but it just turned out he can't be caught ). My thrower got hit on a lot though.
So, for the Thrower I was thinking either Block, to give him some protection, or Kick Off Return, to compensate his lack of movement.
For the Goblin I am not at all sure what to give him. Diving catch? Side Step? Sprint? Sure Feet?

Re: Skills for Orc Thrower and Gobbo
I'd give the thrower block and the goblin side step (always useful)
I also think that you're lacking guard on your blitzers (and eventually the BOs)

Does that mean that you start without the thrower?Jimmy Fantastic wrote:Retire both, score with blitzers.
Which means, that your starting roster is this?
4 Blitzers
4 BO
3 Lineorcs
3 RR
30k in the bank

Re: Skills for Orc Thrower and Gobbo
While it is probably a better team, I can't not have a goblin and troll, just for that 1 in a 100 game where you score turn 16 with him
Thrower wise I have one with block, currently leader. But he will die soon. I am very poor at protecting my ball carrier so the strategy is the thrower tries to run it in but when I eventually lose the ball a blitzer recovers it.
My normal starting roster is
320 4 Blitzers
320 4 Black Orcs
070 Thrower
110 Troll
040 Goblin
120 3 RR
20 left
But if I wants to play a short term league would be hard to not go for the list below...
320 4 Blitzers
320 4 Black Orcs
100 2 lineorc
070 1 Thrower
180 3 RR
10 left

Isn't it better to start with 3 RR and just buy the troll after say two games?Jimmy Fantastic wrote:Indeed, with an option to start with Troll and 2rr.
Without sure hands, you kind of need the RRs just to pick the ball up.
Or, do you have a different experience with 2RRs?

Re: Skills for Orc Thrower and Gobbo
I prefer the 4 Blitzer, 4 BOB, 2 Lineman, 1 Thrower, 3RR setup with a Troll as the next buy. Saves a RR with sure hands and allows all the Blitzers to be involved in the drive downfield.
I prefer Guard as a first skill on BOBs (unless another BOB has Block, in which case Block is first - it prevents runaway SPP on individuals due to preferential blocking with the Block player), and MB on the Blitzers, giving fairly easy 2d blocks with MB even in the scrum. 2nd skill is Block ofc.

Re: Skills for Orc Thrower and Gobbo
I do prefer the 3 RR build but depending on the league composition etc starting with the Troll is an option.
After playing with rookie Nurgz I have gotten used to playing with 2RR and while it calls it for a more conservative style it's not something to be too concerned with, esp with 4 starting Block.

Re: Skills for Orc Thrower and Gobbo
Wow, okay, I have a lot to consider now. Thank you for the answers so far.
Since I am already 5 games into the season, I can't do anything about starting roster . Also, since we all started fresh into the league, we were able to spend 100k on skills, which is why I have a troll and three of four BOBs with block. And I will definitly take Guard with the BOBs as next skill!
Seeing I don't trust my luck with the dice (seems Nuffle decides randomly which results he grants me ), I quite like the Thrower Sure Hands option. There protecting him with Block seems to be best choice.
As for the Goblin, I see sense in Side Step and Sure Feet. Any (external) arguments why I should choose one over the other?

If you plan to throw him and 1TTD then Catch, Sure Feet and Sprint are the best skills.Saebelsultan wrote: As for the Goblin, I see sense in Side Step and Sure Feet. Any (external) arguments why I should choose one over the other?
If you don't plan to throw him then fire him.

For those that play Orcs without a Thrower, do you give a Blitzer (or even a Lineman) Sure Hands?
