No, actually, I most certainly don't. ALL of my line elves who roll doubles get guard, if I happen to have a bunch with guard, or the same guy gets 2 doubles rolls, you'll see one with Dauntless. I also never give line elves sure hands. That's what throwers are for, the rest of the time I count on the 2 to be good enough. No nerves of steel either, I don't play the long passing game to line elves so it's not useful to them, see also comment about all doubles rolls.

Not true at all. Their STATS make them useful for multi-tasking, and I actually do give them block sometimes...actually more often than I would, say, a human thrower because he doesn't need accurate or strong arm. PLus DE throwers don't need doubles to get dodge, meaning they can survive a block or two that way (not to mention being used to actually dodge). To me that's very good multi-tasking. And the extra 10k you pay for them over the high elf thrower is pretty much meaningless since you don't start the team with them.
It's very clear that we play dark elves very very differently. Throwers fit very well into my developed teams, they don't seem to for you. Whatever works man...I know my way works just fine for me.
