Recording BB moves
I've asked this question already, but that was in another thread (Awaken, foul beast....) and I think it deserves one of its own.
What I wanted to know is if someone has invented a standard notation for recording Blood Bowl moves? Kind of like in chess? It's a little sad that once you're done playing, the details of the game are lost. Chessplayers get to replay their games at home on the computer (or on the physical board-thingy, if they're nostalgic), wouldn't it be fun if there was a way to do this with Blood Bowl games?
Feedback & opinions, anyone?

yeah, it would be fun.
it would be a bit more complex than in chess I guess, as there is a ton more actions going on. I thought about it, but did not come up with a very good approach. Probably the easiest would be to draw the moves. Kind of a snapshot of each turn. Starting situation and then the moves with arrows and the result of the dice either next to the arrow or next to the field with a refference number next to it.
It would consume some sheets though.
The easiest thing would be an electronic version. Kind of the drag and drop, click, pull down menu approach.
Any Java pros out here.

You could always number the rows and columns like in chess.
Actions are noted in our league like this:
3->5-SI45, Apo
which means that nummer 3 had done an injury to number 5, a serieus injury with result 45, but that 5 has been saved by the Apothecary.

Pbem gives you a full log, and what's more you can rewind/fast forward the game to any point, look at it move by move (either forwards or backwards)
Anyway, here's a log excerpt (my first turn) from by current game:

Fouling on your first turn, Deathwing!?
You dirty b$%&$ard ..
Yes, PBeMBB has all you need to 'record' matches, and see them again. But only if you play with the tool, and not if you want to play a game and note down what happens on a real pitch.

Christer has written a replay client for the log files of the java game as well. You can step though turns or set it for a play speed and watch the game.

The point was that the notation exists. If you wanted to record a tabletop game with pen and paper then you could easily use the notation that either Pbem (or I guess Java) uses. You could also 'mirror' a tabletop game on a PC I guess, which would make it really easy to review.TiMuN wrote:Fouling on your first turn, Deathwing!?![]()

As for the foul... a Piling On Troll in a Quarter Final? Too right mate, that's what DPs are for.

Thanks for your replies! It seems as if pbembb has more or less established the standard for how bb moves are recorded. At least for software applications anyway. I don't think anyone would want to record moves that way by hand.
Now I'd like to look at a few games recorded like that. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Or hey, please feel free to email those log files to me!
If it isn't too much of a bother that is. Any and all games are appreciated.
EDITED: Noticed that you couldn't attach files by using the forum's email function, so if you'd like to email log files to me, please use: thomas79@kth.se. Thanks!

If iirc, you can't email just the log, you have to have the complete game file, in which case you need the pbem tool.
Or can you?

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

Ah, I see. I will download the tool then.
Do you know of a database with recorded PBeMBB games available online? I am asking because I'm playing around with the idea of creating a BB computer opponent, who'd learn from experience. It would need lots(!) of sample games to learn, and I thought it'd be fun if it could do that by looking at human vs. human games. (Not only fun, but it would also improve the learning rate a lot.)
What do you people do with the game files once you're done playing a game?
Announcement: I am now officially begging you to send me your PBeMBB game files to thomas79@kth.se .
